~ Starpack - Final evaluation & Timeplan ~

Starpack was probably my most extensive brief I did this year. The brief asked for a concept and packaging design specifically - but to push myself further I decided to develop the concept into a full brand identity, with brand guidelines, delivery/packing concept & website plan. The concept I developed was so well thought out it would of been a waste of good ideas not to take the brief as far as I could.

The final concept and design has lots of layered elements, each informed by different research and contextual considerations. The stock choices, colour, format of packaging and every decision made was informed directly by the brief and process preparation; this is what makes the final outcome so successful. I even went as far as to consider if the concept became real how the online ordering system would work; how the numbering of orders would link and simplify the process for all involved.

I engaged initially with the brief due to its outward value - the potential promotion I could get if I won. I also wanted to challenge myself as i've never done a packaging brief before; but have enjoyed folding technique based tasks in the past. After initial submission (of the design boards and final photographs) I have now got through to the second round of judging. To do so I was required to send the physical final packaging prototype off, alongside physically printed design boards. The winner will receive a work placement week with Graphic Packaging International and £500 - so I am really hoping that I am successful and going the extra mile with the overall branding for the brief will serve me well.

Because I set myself so many individual tasks and elements to design, the time planning was a really key consideration. I set myself certain goals of completion on a monthly basis in order to make sure everything was ready for final production and photography for the deadline.

Time plan

November - Brief, initial ideas generation
December - Research contextual and visual
January - Concept development
February - Logo design and brand identity
March - Net design & prototyping
April - Collateral design and box printing/production
May - Design/presentation boards and submission
Ongoing - Secondary submission & waiting for a final result
