~ Starpack - net development ~

Before creating the net designs for the individual elements of packaging it seemed more logical to create the outer 'casing' for the entire package to keep everything together.

I came across this net design for a hexagonal box that used small locking tabs to secure at the top. I wanted to adapt this design so that it could be carried safely and effectively.

I adapted the net idea and added on handles and a slit in the top so the little lock tabs could still fit in and hold everything tightly together effectively.

I created a mock up to fully experiment and figure out what issues I may face with the production of this packaging design. Issues/comments ...

- The handle could cause issues for stacking multiple deliveries on top of each other, limits ease of distribution
- Quite a complicated box to put together, the staff would have to spend a lot of time just putting boxes together
- Health conscious individuals are likely to also be environmentally conscious, need to consider using as little packaging as possible and making everything recycled/able.

What is more important? A handle or the ability to be able to stack the packaging.

An experimental amended net, allows for less packaging.

Take away 2 clasps and add a handle? / place to hold cutlery? The handle could even be held together using the cutlery?

This is the final amendment to the packaging (outer sleeve) net. It is reduced in size (making it more environmentally friendly; important when appealing to a health conscious audience). The new 2 tabs are held together by the cutlery (knife, fork, spoon, chopsticks? dependent on what meal is packaged within/specified in the order).

At this point I decided to contact some packaging production companies to source some stock for the final mock-up of my packaging.

Hi there, I am a graphic design student at Leeds college of Art. I am currently doing a conceptual brief for the packaging for a healthy fast food company. I am looking for some carton board fit to package food in, preferably brown/recycled. I was wondering if you stock anything like this? Thanks Izzie

The final net design for the outer packaging - this will hold together each individual 'course' or element within the order.

The full and half boxes will be available to be filled with 'main' dish options.

The parallelogram and quarter box options are available to be filled with starters, sides, snacks.

The triangle box will be used as the net for the carton drinks but also a few small/individually wrapped snacks will be available at this size.
